Lisa Snively has a passion for adventure that has driven her to jump out of airplanes and become a certified scuba diver. A former 911 operator, she has worked at the Oregon State Department of Corrections and now provides HR direction to judges, administrators and supervisors at the Oregon Judicial Department. “I enjoy the service aspect of working in government as opposed to the profit-driven aspect of working in the private-sector arena. It fits better with my personality,” she says. Her desire to serve others extends to the HR profession and the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM), which she joined in 1999. In 2014, she served as president of the SHRM-affiliated Northwest Human Resource Management Association (NHRMA), which last year gave her its distinguished member award. With SHRM’s Oregon State Council, she has volunteered as a director, conference chair and foundation chair. For Snively, the greatest thrill of all is helping others. What has been your greatest challenge? When I worked at the Oregon Department of Corrections, we went through layoffs. Everyone had a personal story, and everyone needed their paycheck. It was very difficult. I had employees thank me—even after I gave them the bad news. They were grateful because I was respectful and caring toward them. - See more at: https://shrm.org/publications/hrmagazine/editorialcontent/2016/0616/pages/0616-snively.aspx#sthash.Fti5vcM2.dpuf
